Dear Understanding HST Dance Families,
Almost every class has video on our website. Please make sure your student is practicing with these videos.
– Go to hstonline.org – Click “HST Families” in blue bar. – Under “Program Links” click “Dance Classes” – First thing you’ll see the Finale video instructions, keep scrolling down to find the video of your particular dance class.
I will be stopping by every class tomorrow and Wednesday to watch your dances so I can email the parents who need to allocate extra practice time for students. I understand that parents have many priorities so they need to know when something has to be bumped up the priority list. *That is the goal of my emails – to help parents help their students – not to make any student feel badly.* How fast a student learns the choreography is not an indication of their dance skills or their intelligence. It just takes some people more repetitions before it sticks and becomes “muscle memory”. Since we are in the home stretch it is essential that everyone master the choreography (not copy what other students are doing – which means they will be a half step behind everyone).
Thank you, again, for all that you do to enable your students to be part of our program.
Blessings, Mrs. Mullan

Choirs: 10:30 start & 30 min. a day choir practice
Dear Understanding HST Choirs,
It was never a conscious plan, but God seems to have had HST evolve in a way that our MO is to do tough things in less time than is normal. Sometimes the solution is that God gives us supernatural multiplication of time, and sometimes the solution is that we have amazingly dedicated students and parents. Our choirs fall in the second category.
The number of rehearsal hours is not enough for the number of songs and their degree of difficulty. We could go from 3 songs per choir to 2, or we could pick easy songs, but that is not what we’ve felt called to do thus far. *With talented singers and instructors, there is a natural desire to strive for excellence. * However, we also know that* it takes team work from everyone*. So, here is what we can do and what we’d like you to do.
– We are going to start choir rehearsals at 10:30am for the remaining 2 weeks at Redland. – *You are being asked* to practice 30 min a day. – We all are going to remember to pray for God’s blessings on our efforts.
I have no doubt that *with everyone’s hard work and God’s support, we will end up with an excellent product that will bless our audiences!*
Many thanks & blessings, Mrs. Mullan
Pushing Make-up design email to 8pm
Dear Understanding Make-up Students,
I should have realized that our busy homeschool students wouldn’t all be home at 5pm. I am pushing the time back to 8pm. I’ll email the design options at that point.
So – 8pm tomorrow (Monday 3/18). Blessings, Mrs. Mullan
Make-up Design options – go out Monday at 5pm
Dear Understanding Make-up Students,
Megan’s list of make-up design options will go out Monday, March 17 at 5pm. I want to give advance notice because the selection of designs is done first-come, first-serve. When you receive the list of design options, this is how it will work:
1) Type your name, in a colorful font, in front of the design/s you would like to do (please pick one to two designs. *They do not have to be from the shows you a assigned to do). * 2) Hit “Reply All”. DO NOT reply just to Mrs. Mullan or Megan Ellis, it will not count. 3) Design your character’s makeup 4) Return design sheet to Megan by 29 March (these can be handed in in person or scanned and emailed)
Choices are first-come-first-serve, if there is an issue, we will go by time stamp on the emails that are sent to everyone.
Blessings, Mrs. Mullan
Thanks
Dear Understanding SR Troupe,
Just a quick thanks for the good work you are doing. I know it is challenging not to have Mrs. Alexander present. With our prayers, she plans to be back next week.
I also want to clarify that your run time is fine. Apparently my last email got interpreted that I would make cuts based on today’s time. For the record, I would never cut Mrs. Alexander’s show. What I was trying to say was that if the show was not in the ball-park we would begin the conversation about whether or not cuts were needed. I’m sorry if that wasn’t clear and caused people un-do stress.
For those of you who have your lines, dances, and songs learned – kudos! For those of you who know you need more work to master your responsibilities in the show – please do so. Remember, if you need help, you can reach out to your peers. We have very generous students in HST who would be happy to make time to run lines or go over dances. Getting a show up always requires team work – so it is not a bad thing to ask for help.
Finally, let’s all pray for each other. I know God will bless our 24th Season as He’s done for the 23 seasons before this, but we don’t want to take that for granted. A little prayer goes a long way! Blessings, Mrs. Mullan
I’ll bring some extra scripts
If you can print one up before class – please highlight your lines. Blessings, Mrs. Mullan
Travel Troupe Final Script – attached
Dear Understanding Travel Troupe,
Hot off the press…your final script.
The purpose of Travel Troupe is to stretch you and grow your skills. I never know how God is going to do that, but this year it is apparently by having things finalized just under the wire. It’s not the way I’d prefer thing but sometimes God brings great things from pressured performances.
Here is a true story to inspire you:
Jerry Lewis had recommended Dean Martin to replace the singer who quit at a club. He claimed that they did comedy stuff together so the owner would get a two for one deal. In truth they had only joked around together when they met at a bar – they didn’t have any comedic material worked out. After the first show, in which Jerry did his act and Dean Martin sang his songs, the owner asked where their comedy act was. Jerry said they needed to work it out. The response was, “It better be in the next show or the two of you will know what cement shoes feel like. (The owner had connections to the mafia). So, in the 2 hours before their next show Jerry Lew and Dean Martin sketched out their schtick on the napkin that Jerry Lewis’s sandwich had been wrapped in. It was a magical performance that lasted 2.5 hours – they were an overnight sensation. Jerry Lewis kept that napkin locked in a vault his whole life.
So – sometimes greatness comes from pressure. I trust God will help that be true for your show because this is how He had it play out.
Blessings, Mrs. Mullan
Bring shirts to Broadway Choir tomorrow
Broadway Choir, please bring your Showcase shirt from last year, the light blue *Four Seasons *shirt. *We need you to turn these shirts in so please wear a different HST shirt to class. *
*If you have a sibling** with a Four Seasons shirt, could you please bring their as well?* *We need to provide shirts for some students in choir who were not in last year’s show so we are looking for a few shirts that they can use.* Of course, all shirts will be returned after the show. Please also *wear the black pants, socks & shoes you intend to wear in the show. *
God bless, Mrs. Bolin
