History

HST was born during a simple conversation between friends in the summer of 1995. These three mothers saw a need to bring quality theatrical training to home schooled students. That fall they hired a professional director and started a drama troupe with a couple dozen students. Over the years, HST has grown. It now serves over 100 families and between 150 and 200 students.

HST incorporated as Home School Talents, Inc. in 2000 and became a 510(c)(3) non-profit in 2001. The program has graduated from doing one production per year at a local church, to producing five main-stage shows and an interactive improv show each spring at a professional theater (F. Scott Fitzgerald Theater, Rockville, MD). In addition, HST
provides its students with the opportunity to perform at our annual Variety Show/Silent Auction in November and our Travel Troupe gives several community outreach performances to senior centers and preschools in February.

HST has grown to become a supportive community with many social events for students, including a Prom. These events are run by HST’s student leaders in our Thespian Honor Society. The positive, Christian-principled environment that HST works hard to provide
allows students to develop life-long friendships. This is evidenced by the many alumni who return to support shows, attend social events, and work as interns/teachers for our program. Each family, regardless of ethnicity or faith, has blessed HST with their time,
talent and treasure. Our program has been built through their efforts and God’s grace.

HST is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and is not religious affiliated. Donations are tax
deductible. Home schooled students of any race or religion are welcome.
